What is Spiritual Formation?

Spiritual formation is the life-long process of being constantly transformed by God's love into the image of Christ for the sake of others/the world.

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, NKJV

At the intersection of God's longing for us and our longing for God is our spiritual formation. For the follower of Jesus Christ, there is only one way on which to focus - the way of Jesus Christ.

There are a variety of spiritual disciplines that you can engage in and practice the rest of your life - worship, prayer, the study of scripture, meditation, spiritual retreats, solitude, simplicity, practicing hospitality, spiritual direction, and many more. Such practices offer us structures to support and help us grow in Christ. At AHUMC, we seek to offer a variety of ways to engage in spiritual practices that grow us into greater Christ-likeness.
